My name is Sarah Beran and I’ve been writing for almost four years now. I love fairy tales and finding ways to incorporate humor and creative twists in my retellings.
Here are some other fun (or, at the very least, informative) facts about me. Do we have anything in common?
Kidnapped!
One of my favorite parts of the Snow Queen fairy tale is the little robber girl. While Gerta didn’t need rescuing, I can’t say the same for myself.
My mother is coming, and the item directly to my right is my planner. I think we will overwhelm the robbers with the state of my to-do list, and they will feel so sorry for me that they’ll just let me go. 😅
How will you escape?
Winter of the Wandering Wind
Looking for a book with an engagement of convenience, mysterious smugglers, and a seemingly impossible faerie curse? Winter of the Wandering Wind has all of those, plus a sweet love story full of self-sacrifice and the search for redemption. Though it’s based on the German opera of the same name, I promise it ends much more happily.
A cursed captain. A spectral ship. A legend returns.
Captain Casperion Helmrud is dying for the day he can finally set foot on shore. After a deal with a Fae gone wrong, Casper and his entire crew have been cursed to wander the seas of the Faerie realm, trapped in a ghostly half-existence. The curse can only be broken if he can find a woman who will be true to him until death—a seemingly insurmountable task for a man only able to walk on land for a week every seven years.
Sienna Denereid has had her fill of romance and sailors alike. Jilted at the altar by her ex-fiance, all the young nymph wants to do is live quietly with her father, tend to her family’s lighthouse in the Winter Court, and perhaps daydream about the legends of the dashing, mysterious captain known only as The Flying Dutchman. When her father’s life is saved by a dark, enigmatic sailor during a fierce Winter storm, Sienna finds herself suddenly at the center of a mystery involving a series of strange shipments, a ghostly ship, and an unexpected proposal.
With enemies old and new conspiring to keep them apart, will Casper and Sienna finally find safe harbor for both their hearts? Or will the Flying Dutchman and his crew be doomed to wander forever in the wind?
As My Dear Old Mormor Used to Say….
Jem, our hero’s best friend and first mate, has a saying for nearly every situation, courtesy of his dear old Mormor. Here are some of my favorites. What piece of pithy advice would you share?
If you’re a fan of puzzles, you can download these cryptograms for some more Mormor sayings.
Want to know what happens to Jem after the events of Winter?
The Silent Night
Christmas might be over, but there’s much more to this story than holiday festivities. There’s owls! And letters! And a hero who might be small in stature, but he’s big in heart.
Oh, also puns. Can’t forget those.
Twas the hour after midnight and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except for the owls.
And Holly.
Holly is no stranger to the night. Her unique position means that the still hours in the darkest parts of the night are when most of her work gets done. It’s not completely silent—she has Parliament to thank for that—but it does get a bit lonely. Not even the letters from her faithful correspondent can completely fill the empty space, and it’s only a matter of time before she loses even those.
Dominic Klause has watched as, year after year, the winters in Weihnacht grow longer and colder. The nights are dark, food is scarce, and his fellow countrymen are desperate for a miracle, but too proud to accept charity, leaving Dominic no choice but to hide his attempts at helping them under the cover of darkness. But his resources are limited, and not even the brilliant suggestions of his friend Joy can change the fact that it will require the riches of a king to continue his charitable efforts.
As Deus Natus Eve approaches, Dominic turns his attention towards the one place that could solve all his problems—the abandoned castle of the former king. But all is not as it seems behind the towering holly hedges that surround the castle, and Dominic encounters more than he bargained for. When the unexpected gift of love is dropped into his lap, will Dominic find the treasure he seeks? Or will it be lost to the silence of the night?
Wordsearch
I love words. I love puzzles. I love fairy tales. I love quests. What happens when you put them all together? A word search!
Thank you all for coming to the party! If you want to stay in touch, you can find me on Instagram or Facebook. You can also sign up for my newsletter and get a free Puss in Boots novella as a thank you!
Apparently my Hispanic friend who is currently having a baby in the hospital as I type is coming to save me with her newborn and a printer…. 😂
My father is going to FIGHT THEM OFF WITH A CHAIR!
It’s super effective.
My husband is coming with the diaper bag. We’ll feed the kidnappers some granola bars (and some milk? Kinda weird), so they won’t be hangry anymore and let us go.
My rescuer(s) would be my husband and kids (family group text lol)…with a notebook. Somehow, that doesn’t seem like the best weapon to save me 😉
The Mormor saying I’d share is, “Laughter echoes loudest in the head of a fool.”
My husband is comi g to rescue me and we heave the dining room table into their path to slow them down so we can escape.
My brother is going to save me with my cup of soda. lol
The Captain is coming to save me with a water bottle. I actually think this might be rather effective…
I love Jem and Mormor! Downloading the puzzles to unravel later!
Thanks for the party! I love all your books, they’re so sweet and delightful!
Ooh! I’m looking forward to the word search – thank you!
My sister and a bottle of water
My whole family is coming to rescue me. Unfortunately, we will be using electric heaters to help us escape, though I’m not sure how we will lift them. I think I would share the Mormor saying of “The best disguise is to be unexpected”.
My friend is coming to save me with a leopard printed duffel bag.
My brother is coming to rescue me with my headphones. Not sure how well that will work.
