Welcome to Tír na nÓg!
Hi, I’m Hanna Sandvig, and I write and illustrate cozy fairytale retellings that whisk you away through a portal to the realm of Faerie. You can expect lots of baking, banter, mischievous, animal sidekicks, swoony romance, and cottage-core vibes as you explore my Celtic-inspired world.
I’ve actually been an illustrator a lot longer than a writer, and I love to make my books beautiful with romantic character art, beautiful maps, and of course, pretty covers.
For me, both my art and my words are part of how I tell a story. I love how illustrations can pull you into a magical world while you read.
Do you love beautiful print books? I must confess that even though I mostly read ebooks, that doesn’t stop me from buying gorgeous shelf trophies!
The Rose Gate
What is a fairytale you love to read retellings of? Beauty and the Beast is one of the most commonly retold tales, but I can honestly never get enough of it. But, as much as I love the classic story, it really doesn’t have enough cute forest animals, am I right?
In The Rose Gate, we meet Isobel, a bookish nature lover who gets chased by wolves through a portal to Faerie. She ends up trapped in a castle with a cursed fae prince and his servants who have been transformed into woodland animals. She slowly falls in love with the grumpy prince and his kingdom while baking, beekeeping, and helping a mischievous otter pick apples. Will she break the curse and save her new fae friends? Or at least convince him to read Lord of the Rings?
This one is free today, just for you, so check out the free books page at the end!
P.S. If you’ve already read The Rose Gate, did you know that I have an epilogue short story that you can get for free? It’s all about Isobel and Leith’s first Christmas together, but I love the cozy vibes any time of year. And who doesn’t want to see a fae prince wear a Christmas sweater???
Pick a Prince!
Are you a fan of the grumpy warrior type, or do you like a flirty prince charming? Leave a comment and tell who you’d pick!
And if you want to know more about the story they come from, click your prince of choice to be taken to their book.

And as a bonus, here are a couple of coloring sheets featuring the handsome leading men from my books!
The Lily Gate
When Princess Tuala was born, her fairy godmother gave her the christening gift of true love. All she needs to do is hold a series of trials on her eighteenth birthday, and the winner will be her perfect match. But she’s not really one to leave things up to fate, so Tuala has a plan, detailed spreadsheets, and a new friend to help her pick the right prince.
Yes, her new friend is a frog, but with the prince who was her childhood best friend strangely missing from the competition, she’s not about to be choosy. At least her amphibious new bestie appreciates her baking skills.
The Lily Gate, a retelling of The Frog Prince, is short enough to read in an evening, but a satisfying stand-alone story, making the perfect book to start with if you’re curious about my stories but have a long TBR list.
Check out the Once Upon 2025 collection to grab your free copy, and you’ll get a handful of emails telling you about my reader community (more on that in a bit) where I have a beautiful printable bookmark of Cressie, the pet moat monster from this story!
Animal Sidekicks
Are you in the market for a new animal sidekick?? I love my fluffy companion, Finny, but he’s terrible at delivering messages (no matter how much he tries to help me type by laying on the keyboard), and he’s never turned into a prince despite the many forehead kisses I’ve given him. *sigh*
How about you? Need a sidekick with more skills? Click a silhouette to see your new companion. Choose wisely if you don’t want to share your cookies!

My Community
I had so much fun hanging out with you today! This is the part when I’d usually be telling you where to find me on social media, or sign up for my newsletter, but the truth is, I’ve been pulling back from social media lately. It’s just getting so overrun with silly clickbait and stressful politics while the algorithms hide the people I actually want to see, and I miss the sense of community I used to find online.
And while my newsletter is still a great way to get update on sales and releases, it’s not where I’m focusing my attention these days. Instead, I’m choosing to spend my time in a place where I can actually hang out with readers and share my art and stories.
The Royal Library of Tir na nOg is my cozy little Patreon community. That’s our mascot snoozing on the librarian’s desk above! In the Royal Library I share art, writing, and personal updates, we have community hangouts and holiday events, and I post a new chapter a week of the book I’m writing.
I love Patreon because there’s no ads, no filler, just our community. And you get notified of new posts so you never find out about something a week too late (I’m looking at you Facebook).
Here’s a quick summary of the library’s tiers:
If you’re interested in checking the Royal Library out, I’m offering a free 7-days to the Jackalope Journals and Phouka Parties tiers just for this event! You can sign up and poke around to see if you think it would be a fun place to spend your time.
I hope I’ll see you in the library, but if Patreon isn’t for you I’m still around other places as well 😉
Happy Fairytale Day!
Lots of Love,
Hanna
3 sounds fun because it is a shape shifting one
Prince would be Naven and sidekick would be Tait.
Naven is my first choice because childhood friends is my favorite trope. My next pic was Tiernan because I love the name and, well, I wouldn’t mind the dragon egg… But then I read about Kylian and my oh my. I think he is mysterious swoon wrapped up in a pretty little box.
For the prince, I’d pick Tiernan, and for my animal sidekick, Liadan.
I pick… Naven. My type is the cinnamon roll. Though I do like cats who hate coffee and will teach me spells.
My Prince would be Kylian and my sidekick would be Liadan.
While I would be very sad to lose cookies, I am not opposed to sharing – as long as we both get cookies, I’m good. That said, the spoon-stealing, cookie-eating Kiyohime sounds like a fun little pet – plus a way-cooler-than-electronics messaging system!
Thanks for the fun!
Thank you so much for writing this series. (I read it way too fast so it was over way too soon.) It’s hard to choose, but… I’d pick Naven. And your adorable unnamed #5 ball of fluff fo ran animal sidekick.
Why choose all the men sound amazing Liadan because I love cats
I would pick Leith because he has a magic library! My animal sidekick would be Liadan because I love cats! Thanks for all of the fun!
I adore your series! I got hooked with the Frog Gate. I really like the consistent gate theory and world building. And when you made a character that was a thick girly like me and a MMC that was ultimate crush material and my skin tone, I knew I adored your writing even more.
MMC- is a toss up for me between Tiernan and Julian.
