Meet Brittany
Brittany lives with her Prince Charming, their little fairy, and their little prince in a sparkling (decently clean) castle in whatever kingdom the Air Force has most recently placed them. When she’s not writing, Brittany can be found chasing her kids around with a DSLR and belting it in the church choir.

Hey, there! Thank you so much for coming to Once Upon 2024! I can’t believe it, but this is the FIFTH time we’ve celebrated National Fairy Tale Day with a Once Upon party! What started as a way for this extrovert author (we are rare, but we do exist) to escape the boredom and anxiety of 2020 has become an annual event!
Why fairy tales, you may wonder? Because fairy tales give us light. Through them, we can escape to a world where evil is defeated and good triumphs! Where happy endings reign and love never fails. Most of you know this, but I’ve always struggled with high levels of anxiety. I found early on in my childhood, however, that fairy tales were a fantastic way to escape reality and then return to it with a new dose of courage.
At first, of course, I got my fill through Disney and my Reader’s Digest gold-edged anthology. (Although…can a fairy tale reader ever really get her fill?) Then I discovered Gail Carson Levine’s Ella Enchanted, which blew my mind because…fairy tales for older readers? Yes, please! Then I found Robin McKinley. And the obsession only intensified, except…
There were very few fairy tale authors beyond them. In vain, I searched the bookstore shelves for fairy tales that could be enjoyed by adults. There seemed, however, none to be had…Until 2014 rolled around, and I discovered this crazy new book world called Kindle. Authors like K.M. Shea were finally turning the tide for fairy tales. And in the middle of a very difficult pregnancy, I made the rash decision to join them.
And I haven’t looked back.
Fairy tales, of course, are in abundance these days. And Once Upon 2024 is a way for fairy tale fanatics everywhere to celebrate this beautiful form of art. While I haven’t had the chance to read every book being offered here, these fairy tale authors have been vetted to ensure that you’re getting clean happy endings. They’ve also assured me that none of these books have been generated using AI. We’re here to bring our stories to you straight from our hearts. And we hope to get to know you better as well!
So that you can really get to know these authors (and for us to get to know you), each page will lead from one author to another. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence and the inhuman aspect of marketing these days, it’s our hope to connect with you personally. So put on your jammies, grab a hot cup of something yummy, send an invite link to your friends, and get ready for hours of fairy tale fun!
I’ll start…
Which Diadem Would You Be?
Every princess needs her crown! And if you were a crown, which kind would you be? Take this personality test and find out here!
Princesses Monthly
Sometimes I like to delve into creative ventures that have nothing to do with the books I’m writing. This is one of the ways I keep from burning out. It’s kind of weird, I know–doing creative things so your creative well doesn’t run dry. But it’s how my brain works, so I accept it.
This is one of those projects. I was racking my brain to think of something new that I’ve never done before, and it occurred to me that it could be really fun to create a magazine cover for princesses. I don’t buy magazines often because they’re expensive, but I’ll admit that I love the feeling of holding a real paper magazine in my hands. And I can only imagine Belle or Cinderella or Snow White loving to do the same.
So here’s my question for you. What clickbaity articles would you expect to see in this magazine’s future editions? I bet you, beloved fellow fairy tale addicts, could come up with some good ones!
Meet My Fairy Tales
I’m not sure how, but over the years, my fairy tale collection has multiplied from one main series to…well, a lot. I started with the Classical Kingdoms Collection, which is a shared world in which many standalone fairy tales take place (and a good deal of beloved characters MIGHT make cameos).
Then came Clara’s Soldier, which is a historical fantasy post WWII-retelling of The Nutcracker. It deals with the tough issue of PTSD service members often suffer from…and the happy endings that are still possible.
Then came the children’s books I’ve ALWAYS wanted to write. Fun fact, the Cinderella retelling was my daughter’s sixth birthday gift, and the Cinderella character and her dog were illustrated using my daughter and her best furry friend as models. And as my degree is in elementary education, I had fun creating stories that parents and children can enjoy together. (With audiobooks available as well!)
The Air Force Fairy Tales are a product of my milspouse life. Each one takes place at a base we’ve either been stationed at or one I’ve spent time at. Each of these books are clean contemporary military love stories of sassy ladies and their men in uniform. (My favorite kind of man…but I’m biased.) While not fantastical in the traditional sense, there’s a quite a bit of snark, lots of laughs, and magical happily-ever-afters.
The Nevertold Fairy Tale Novellas are my newest series. They’re not set in the Classical Kingdoms Collection world, but are lesser-known fairy tales as retold by Wendy and Peter Pan (stemming from the end of my Neverland duology from the CKC world). My full-length fairy tale novels tend to run long, so these novellas are more bite-sized for those days when you just want a quick fix of happily-ever-after.
If you’re interested in learning more about these fairy tales, you can click / tap on the images below, and they’ll take you to the right page.
And one more thing about my fairy tales? None of them are exclusive to any stores, which means you can read them on whatever app you prefer!
Fairy Tale Builder:
All fairy tales have a few main components! And now you can build your own! Choose your favorite fairy tale elements and share them below! Or keep them to yourself and mix and bake your own new world! Just choose one from each graphic and let your imagination run away with you!
Free / Discounted Books:
You’ll find these on the last page, of course, but here are my free / discounted books! (And the email address request is simply so the delivery service knows where to deliver the download code.)
This professionally narrated audiobook is usually $9.99, but right now, you can get it for $4.99!
The first fairy tale in the Nevertold Fairy Tale Novellas, this fairy tale is often confused with Cinderella. But it’s a little gem all on its own, and one I thought deserving of its own book.
Just like this party, this retelling of Maid Maleen was written during 2020 (and involves some poor souls locked in a tower). But not one to give up, Princess Maleen is sassy and resolved to win back everything that was taken from her…including the heart of the man she loves.
This clean contemporary military romance is a hardcore enemies-to-lovers tale full of shenanigans and competition (that starts to look dangerously like flirting). Inspired by Beauty and the Beast, watch Jessie and Derrick fall in love before they’re aware it’s happening as they stumble upon the happy ending they never thought they’d find.
This Classical Kingdoms Collection 11 Full-Length Novel Ebook Boxset is available ONLY through my website. Usually, it sells for $47.99, but right now, it’s on sale for 50% off at $23.99! That’s over a million words for under $25!
Store Discount:
Did you know you can order signed paperbacks, book-themed mugs, stickers, tote bags, book boxes, and more directly from my website? To get closer to my readers without worrying about what the big box stores are doing, I’ve built my own store for book fanatics like you. Also a fun fact, I hand-make every item I sell with my trusty Cricut machine.
But why buy directly from an independent author, you may ask?
It’s a good question. We generally can’t offer free shipping and huge discounts the way the big stores do. But we do love working directly with you, the reader. Furthermore, we make a lot more money when we sell direct and don’t have to share the earnings with big, faceless companies. The purchases that big stores might count as small cookies are huge slices of chocolate cake to us, and they make a real difference in our lives. For example, what I make from my author earnings, I use to pay for my daughter’s martial arts lessons and our utility bills. So when readers choose to purchase from authors directly, we count it as a special gift.
And for today? I’ve made some Once Upon 2024 stickers specifically for this celebration! But if you want them, you need to order now, as they’re only on sale through February 28th. And if you use this coupon code, you get 10% off anything in the store!

Snow White Cover Reveal:
And yes. This is, in fact, the actual cover reveal! No reader has seen this entire cover before!
Classical Kingdoms Collection readers have been asking for this story for a long time. Namely, they’ve been waiting for Henri Fortier’s story. Introduced as a lost, lonely boy in Beauty Beheld, my retelling of Hansel and Gretel, and seen again as Prince Nicholas’s best friend in Cinders, Stars, and Glass Slippers (my retelling of Cinderella), readers have been wondering for a while when they would get to see Henri get his own happy ending.
Well, this is it. Henri is finally getting his own love story. And he finds it in the most surprising of places. But really, this is the crown prince of Destin. His life is bound to be full of surprises.
Princess Snow and Prince Henri’s kingdoms have been at enmity for a thousand years.
But when a dark queen rises, they have little choice but to join forces.
If they don’t, not only will their kingdoms fall…but the entire western realm.
Princess Snow has been sheltered since she was born, hidden away in a secret garden at her terrified father’s behest. Upon her father’s death, however, her brother grants her the freedom of which she’s always dreamed. He even introduces her to his new wife who has already gained the reputation of being the most beautiful woman in all of Tumen.
Just as it seems Snow’s life is beginning, however, her new sister reveals a heart full of jealousy and fear. Barely escaping the castle with her life, Snow stumbles upon a group of kind-hearted mountain men…and the aggravatingly handsome prince who claims to have come at her brother’s request.
Crown Prince Henri Fortier of Destin had no intentions of venturing into the heart of his enemy’s lands. But when the new king of Tumen begs Henri to find his missing sister, Henri goes in hopes of making peace. The princess is indeed alive, but helping her would be much easier if she didn’t resent him so much. Which makes it all the more confusing, when he finds himself drawn to her…and wonders whether she’s secretly drawn to him as well.
None of that will matter, however, if the evil queen has her way. Her dark tendrils reach far beyond the boundaries of their own kingdoms. And if these two unlikely allies can’t stop her, a shadow of misery and oppression will overtake everyone they love.
If you want the magic of Narnia and the romance of fairy tales, read this clean fantasy retelling of Snow White today to escape into the Classical Kingdoms Collection, a series of clean fantasy fairy tale retellings with magical mystery, clean, passionate romance, and heroic happily-ever-afters.
Author’s Note: The Huntsman’s Heart is the continued story of Prince Henri from Beauty Beheld, but it can be read as a standalone novel.
This book is set to launch September 30th! But if you want to know a secret, here it is…
The book is already done and in the editing stages! The big hurdle to publishing is going to be the self-funded crowdfunding I’m attempting so I can pay for an audiobook that launches with the ebook! If this piques your interest, you can learn more about it here!
Thank you
Thank you again for joining me for Once Upon 2024! If you’d like to keep up with me and my books, you can sign up for my newsletter here!
Now the party’s just getting started, so I hope you have a blast! We have a lot of authors this year, so make sure you refill your drink and snacks as needed. But make sure not to take too many breaks! The sales and discounts (which you’ll find all on one page at the end of the party) won’t be live for very long!
I LOVE the magazine cover! So clever. And the cover is gorgeous!
So I picked the Unskilled Wizard who learns he’s adopted with An ambitious General as the villain and my trope is Grumpy/Sunshine with him being sunshine and her being grumpy.
Oooooh, I’m sapphire sovereign!
And my story…. A kidnapped princess is given a stolen map and the villain is an ambitious general, and the trope is (as always is my favorite) ENEMIES-TO-LOVERS!!!
I’m so glad to be in a time of abundant fairytale retellings! I hated novels until I found retellings, so I’m happy keep finding good ones!
I got White Diamonds!
For my story, the Crown Prince’s secret twin (a princess) fell into a pond portal. Or was she pushed by a greedy scullery maid?! Find out in Vin Riel’s grumpy/sunshine tale of “A Maiden Most Secret” where a displaced princess must unravel the secrets of her kingdom with the help of a most reluctant blacksmith hiding mysteries of his own.
Gems of Elegance! Sounds delightful!
I LOVE the magazine idea and my brain immediately ran with the question of how to make it a reality haha. I mean, who wouldn’t want an article on “Midnight Balls – Outdated Tradition or the Perfect Way to Snap Up a Prince?”
And my story! An unskilled wizard was given a stolen map and has to face off against the raven king, in this enemies-to-lovers story! 😉
The crown Prince’s secret twin learns that he was adopted when something terrible befalls his brother and he has to take his place in a marriage alliance while pretending to be him until their parents can figure out where he is (you can make of this trope what you will, but I see it as a bit of a fake relationship, mixed with a bit of forced proximity, and a bit of reluctant hero). The villain is an evil general with political ambitions who had no idea that the prince was a twin.
I absolutely love fake relationship, forced proximity, AND reluctant hero. Lol. Carry on!
I would absolutely LOVE it if this were a real thing. Lol. I had to stop myself from getting carried away while designing it.
I want to see this, but with you as the MC, dragging around the Vinlings behind you, archly vanquishing your foes as you toss magical peanut butter sandwiches behind you.
Yes! I was dying for these books as a teenager! But Gail Carson Levine and Robin McKinley were about it. And they’re fantastic! But I wanted mooooooooore.
Okay…so picture this: Anne Shirley as the princess and Gil as her enemy. *Snickers*
It seems like the ambitious general is a really popular bad guy. I might have to write me one of these…
Thank you! Now I want to make a real magazine like this. I wanted to get carried away while designing it. LOL.
Amazing! What fun. Thank you!!!! Cannot wait for Henri’s story, the cover is gorgeous, and the quiz was fun! I’ll enjoy my white diamonds for sure. 😉
Thank you! And I hope you love it! I had a really fun time giving Henri his happy ending.
That Huntsman’s Heart cover is gorgeous!
I could not WAIT to get off work to come PARTY! And EEEEEPPP THE NEW COVER! My heart is aflutter and I am seriously DYING for September already!!! Ahhh! Oh my goodness! *hearteyes*
*attempts to compose self after that revelation*
*ahem*
Right, the party. Yes, of course.
I got Gems of Excellence for the crown and the little blurb almost made me tear up. That was really sweet and fun and I definitely enjoyed that more than I thought I would.
The magazine is such a fun little idea! I think it might be cool if there is like a monthly composition contest or free subscription to a sheet music company or magazine or something. Or maybe an ad for vocal lessons or a forest-animal sing-along article or something XD
For the story idea, I ended up with a princess’s bodyguard who lost a magical ruby. A jaded mermaid villain who may or may not also be the love interest? 😀 Picking the trope was a little harder, but perhaps a little grumpy/sunshine or he fell first?
AND EEEP THAT COVER! Also, did I miss the crowdfunding update?! *goes to check out link and goes down the store rabbit hole too*
In all seriousness, thank you so much for hosting this fun event, contributing discounts and books galore, and for all that you do <3

Also, that cover for The Huntsman’s Heart is so pretty!!!
My story would be a princess who hates potatoes, kidnapped by a poor fisherman, who only has potatoes and fish to eat most days. Of course, it would be enemies to lovers. And now I think I should write this.
Do it!!!
Thank you! It’s been killing me to wait until now to share it!
Wow! I LOVE the cover of The Huntsman’s Heart. The cover is absolutely gorgeous! I love fairytale retellings too. Ever since I watched Disney when I was kid, I became OBSESSED with fairytales. I’ve searched almost everywhere and found multiple clean fairytale authors (K.M. Shea is an undisputed favourite!). I dream of writing one myself. I can’t wait for your next fairytale retelling book!
In addition to this, I got Sapphire Sovereign. I’m okay with that, but I had been hoping for some other type of gem because sapphires aren’t exactly my favourite.
I also love your magazine cover. I think it is so pretty!
For the write your own fairytale thing, I chose a kidnapped princess who forgot who she was. The villain in an ambitious general and the relationship is forced proximity, enemies to lovers and grumpy/sunshine (where the general is grumpy and the princess is sunshine). I figure the story would go something like the princess is kidnapped by the general because the general wants to become king or get a high ransom or something. However, the more time he spends in her presence, the more he finds himself falling for her.
Ooh, actually I just got a great idea! It can be a Snow Queen retelling, where the general is cursed with a heart of ice and is commanded by the Snow Queen to take over the kingdom!
Ok, but I would legit love to be a part of a princess magazine. I found a cool magazine, but was a little disappointed that its geared towards modern witch craft (no hate, you do you) b/c it’s too expensive to get for a few recipes and stories, and I feel a little weird getting it as a Christian. If you need photographers, editors, artists, or writers for a princess zine, I AM SO HERE FOR YOU!
Aaah, the cover for The Huntsman’s Heart is so beautiful!!!😍 I’m looking forward to its release!!
Princesses Monthly is such a cool idea!!! I wish it were an actual magazine. I would definitely read it!
